JAL and China Eastern Airlines to form JV alliance
Japan Airlines is deepening its tie-up with China Eastern Airlines to form a joint venture alliance.
The two airlines will expand the current codesharing partnership to formally coordinate flight schedules, sales and other operations.
JAL and China Eastern tout more choice and convenience for passengers and are targeting next April to get the alliance off the ground.
The JV would need anti-trust approval from both countries first.
It would cover international flights linking the two countries and domestic services.
Both said the alliance will offer more convenience on JAL flights from the Tokyo and China Eastern Airlines’ flights from its Shanghai airport hubs, and also shorten transit times when connecting between services.
