JAL flight attendant tests positive for coronavirus
A Japan Airlines flight attendant has tested positive for coronavirus, the airline says.
According to Tokyo health officials, the woman in her 50s began to feel unwell on February 24.
She then worked a flight to Chicago the following day carrying 104 passengers.
All cabin crew were wearing masks and gloves as is standard at the moment.
The plane has since been disinfected JAL said.
The woman is in isolation but ‘has no symptoms such as cough or fever.’
She tested positive at the weekend and a dozen work colleagues identified as ‘close contacts’ have been asked to self-quarantine at home.
"At this time, none of the aforementioned attendants are presenting symptoms," the airline said.
"On all domestic and international flights, flight attendants wear masks at all times, wear gloves when serving meals and drinks, and take thorough measures against infectious diseases such as hand washing."
It is the second flight attendant in Asia to contract coronavirus after a Korean Air crew member tested positive last month.
There has been more than 500 cases of covid-19 in Japan, leading to 17 deaths.
