JAL’s UK cabin crew irked at ‘insulting’ pay offer
UK based cabin crew at Japan Airlines have reacted with frustration at JAL’s latest pay offer.
Workers based at Heathrow airport have rejected an offer that effectively amounts to 1.5% which was described as ‘insulting.’
The airline offered 3% on basic pay, but it wants to freeze flight allowances.
As these allowances make up about 50% per cent of earnings, the pay offer amounts to just 1.5% union Unite says.
It says JAL is hugely profitable with latest revenues of nearly $9billion and profits of nearly $600 million.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Our members at Japan Airlines are rightly furious at such a pathetically low pay offer. JAL is the flagship carrier of Japan and is making huge profits. “
Japan Airlines flies from London Heathrow to Tokyo Haneda twice a day.
Unite regional officer Joe McGowan added: “Despite working incredibly hard and helping the company make huge profits, Japan Airlines clearly doesn’t value its workers. Our cabin crew members will now be considering all options.”
