Jamaica hotel worker shot by victim after alleged double rape
A hotel worker is being questioned by Jamaica police for the alleged rape at gunpoint of two American tourists in Jamaica.
Demar Scott, an entertainment coordinator at the Riu Reggae Hotel in St James, is in police custody after being accused of breaking into a guestroom at the hotel and sexually assaulting the two victims.
At some point during the attack Scott dropped the firearm, which was picked up by one of the women who then shot him.
Scott was wounded in the upper arm and fled.
Police said the gun was stolen from another room at the hotel.
"There was a very unfortunate incident in the Riu Reggae Hotel in which two guests were attacked by a trainee at the entertainment department of the hotel. The man, who had been in training for only three days, was able to escape," the hotel said in a statement.
"We are unable to share further details both for the protection of our clients privacy as well as to not interfere in the investigation."
The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association urged a full investigation into the incident.
No charges yet have been officially filed against Scott.
