Jamaica ready to reopen June 15

Jamaica is pressing ahead with preparations to reopen to international travellers on June 15.

All visitors will be screened by thermal temperature checks on arrival, and anyone showing symptoms will be subject to quarantine.

Incorporating a strategy of ‘prevention, detection and response,’ the government worked with global health agencies, private sector, unions, and international partners in and outside the tourist industry to devise new SOPs.

These include the World Travel & Tourism Council, CDC, and the World Bank.

"Tourism is the lifeblood of our local economy, and with the help of international experts and a dedicated task force, we have developed protocols that allow us to safely reopen our borders," said Donovan White, Jamaica’s director of tourism.

"We are confident that "as we restart our economy, Jamaicans will work together to ensure a safe, secure and seamless experience."

Health and safety protocols will be reviewed every two weeks and it will make any ‘necessary and appropriate revisions.’

Tourism minister Edmund Bartlett says Jamaica is ‘one of the most prepared destinations in the Caribbean’ after conducting a tour of Sangster International Airport and several hotels and resorts to see progress.

The airport has installed plexiglass screens at counters and thermal sensor cameras.
