Japan, South Korea to open business travel corridor

Sunday, 05 Oct, 2020 0

Japan and South Korea plan to restart business travel between the two countries within weeks.

Expats, other long-term residents and travel for business reasons will be allowed both ways for travellers with negative Covid-19 tests and can provide past travel history.

No confirmed start date has been announced but the bilateral agreement could be green-lighted this week.

It is thought the business travel bubble could be opened before the end of the month.

Japan has signed agreements with nine other Asian countries and regions including Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar, Taiwan, Singapore and Brunei.

It is unclear how many travellers will use the travel bubble due to the two countries’ diplomatic tensions before the pandemic.

Leisure tourism between the countries had plumged due to a political row over war reparations which led to widespread boycotts including tourism.
