Jet Airways’ CEO quits, leaving grounded carrier without a leader

Embattled carrier Jet Airways is not only grounded but also currently rudderless following the resignation of CEO Vinay Dube.

He quit just hours after his deputy and chief financial officer Amit Agarwal walked out.

"We wish to inform that Vinay Dube, chief executive officer has resigned from services of the company with immediate effect due to personal reasons," Jet Airways said in a regulatory filing.

Indian-American Dube joined jet 18 months ago and had previously held various leadership roles at Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and GDS Sabre in the US, Europe and Asia.

Dubay’s departure was quickly follwed by the rsignations of chief people officer Rahul Taneja and company secretary and compliance officer Kuldeep Sharma.

Several other executives have left since Jet Airways ceased operations a month ago, including founder Naresh Goyal.

Following Argawal’s departure Jet’s share price declined again by 7%.

The exodus will do little to calm its workforce which is still awaiting several months’ salary.

"We are clueless as there is nothing left now. Not even hope," said a senior employee of the company.

It has emerged that partner Etihad is the only airline to have made a bid for cash-strapped Jet Airways, but it is only prepared to invest $240 million, which is a fraction of what it needs to get back in the air.
