Jet2 Holidays settles salmonella case with five-figure sum
A brother and sister struck by salmonella during their holiday in Egypt have been paid a five-figure settlement by Jet2 Holidays.
John Olley, 54 and Pat Dodd, 56, from Tyne and Wear, said they were forced to take a number of weeks off work and continue to suffer health problems after their holiday at the Kiroseiz Three Corners hotel, Sharm El Sheikh in December 2010.
The pair fell ill halfway through their holiday and tests on their return to the UK confirmed that John was suffering from salmonella.
John said: "We saw a range of problems at the resort including food sometimes being left uncovered, occasions where fresh food was mixed with old food, and some meals tasting undercooked.
"I am angry as to what went on. It has been more than three years since we went there and even now Pat and I are suffering. We have both been through such a lot, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
"I am pleased with the outcome and hope to now look forward to the future – and try to put everything we’ve been through behind us."
Jatinder Paul, a specialist travel law solicitor at Irwin Mitchell who represented the pair, said: "While we are pleased to have secured the settlement from Jet2 Holidays, albeit without a full admission of liability, we are disappointed that the tour operator waited until shortly before trial before making a fair offer of settlement."
Jet2 Holidays did not want to comment.
