Jet2 plane makes second emergency landing in fortnight
Jet2 has moved to reassure passengers after the same aircraft made a second emergency landing in a fortnight.
The airline blamed a ‘minor technical fault’ but said the aircraft has been taken out of service for ‘a thorough inspection’.
The plane was flying from Ibiza to Leeds on July 16 when it was diverted to Barcelona in the first incident and on Friday, the same plane had taken off from Newcastle, bound for Prague, when it was diverted to Frankfurt.
In both instances oxygen masks were deployed.
One passenger said the plane descended swiftly, while another described ‘so much panic’.
Jet2 issued a statement following Friday’s incident, saying: "Our flight crew followed procedure and made a controlled descent before landing safely.
"At all times the safety of our passengers is our number one priority… and at no point was the safety of passengers compromised."
One travel agent, posting on the Facebook group site Travel Gossip, said a client who is due to travel on Jet2 had been in touch over the weekend to ask if they could change to a different airline after hearing of the two incidents.
