JetBlue Mint service to launch on Caribbean routes

JetBlue plans to take its new Mint premium service south to the Caribbean in November.

The Mint service will be rolled out on routes between New York JFK and Aruba and Barbados, the NY Times reports.

This will make JetBlue the only US carrier with lie-flat seats on regular scheduled services to the region.

The carrier chose the two destinations as there is high demand, said Marty St. George, executive vice president of commercial and planning.

“We know those are two markets that have high-end leisure premium demand.”

The Mint private suites were launched last year on transcontinental flights from New York Los Angeles and San Francisco, and according to St. George “has been way, way, way above expectations.”

Prices for a Mint seat to Aruba or Barbados will start at $599 each way for off-peak flights.

“There are certain days where there’s infinite demand for the Caribbean so prices will be higher those days,” he added.

The initial seasonal service will be available round trip each Saturday to both destinations until April 30, 2016 with daily frequencies during the Christmas and New Year holiday season.
