JetBlue plans to add more Cuba flights

Bucking the trend for downsizing or pulling out altogether from the Cuba market, JetBlue Airways plans to add services to Havana.

JetBlue has filed an application for an extra seven flights a week which would be for additional flights from Fort Lauderdale and a new route from Boston to Havana.

The filing with the US Department of Transportation states it plans to launch the flights on November 1.

JetBlue is seizing on the available slots as both Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines recently said they are pulling out of the Cuba market.

Both cited high costs and weak demand.

The number of flights allowed from the US to Cuba and provincial airports is limited under the terms of an US-Cuba air treaty signed under the Obama Administration.

JetBlue aims to fly an additional six times a week from Fort Lauderdale and will start a weekly flight to Havana from Boston.
