JetBlue settles lawsuit over unaccompanied minor mix-up

Monday, 07 Dec, 2016 0
A New York mom has settled a lawsuit filed against JetBlue for flying her unaccompanied five-year old son to the wrong city.

In a mix-up, JetBlue sent Maribel Martinez’s son to Boston instead of New York JFK after organizing unaccompanied assistance for two young boys from the same Dominican Republic airport.

Martinez was presented with the wrong boy while awaiting her son’s arrival at JFK.

Martinez sued the airline for ‘great emotional distress, extreme fear, horror, mental shock, mental anguish and psychological trauma’ and had reportedly already turned down a cash settlement from the airline.

The terms of this settlement are confidential, Martinez’ attorney said.

JetBlue had acknowledged its part in the mix-up but still sought to dismiss the lawsuit.

"The parties have agreed to amicably resolve this matter," attorney Sanford Rubenstein said.
