Jetstar Hong Kong seeks takeoff clearance
Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Department has confirmed an application for an air operator’s certificate from the 50-50 joint venture between Qantas and China Eastern Airlines.
The airline will be known as Jetstar Hong Kong.
The application comes four months after the two airlines said they would launch a budget airline aimed at cashing in on China’s booming aviation market.
Jetstar Hong Kong will service short haul routes in Asia, including Greater China, Japan, South Korea and South East Asia.
Subject to regulatory approval, Jetstar Hong Kong services will start in 2013 with a fleet of three Airbus A320s, growing to 18 A320s by 2015.
