Jordan rising: Numbers continue to lift from Australia

Jordan continues to attract an increasing number of Australian travellers, with visitor numbers increasing strongly over the past five months.

Jordan Tourism Board recently hosted 16 travel agents from Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane to check out the country’s key attractions, including the Dead Sea, Red Sea, Mount Nebo, Madaba, Petra and Amman.

Jordan Tourism Board has been investing in the Australian market with a road show in October last year, and another to follow this year.

It has also organised extensive familiarisations for media and travel agents.

Jordan Tourism Board’s representative in Australia, Nicole Lenoir-Jourdan, said: "Jordan is seen as a very secure destination with a stable government.

"Jordan’s ‘oil’ is tourism and hence their people are incredibly warm to visitors."

This was a view endorsed by a recent visitor, President Obama.

Amman, Jordan’s capital, is just over four hours from London and is connected by short haul flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well as a direct flight on Royal Jordanian from Bangkok, which connects with Thai Airlines flights from Australia.

Amman’s new Queen Alia International Airport, designed by Sir Norman Foster, opened in March.
