Karma Group declares war on single sue plastics
Resort and lifestyle brand Karma Group has announced a new focus on sustainability and will start significantly reducing single use plastics.
The new green project will begin in Bali at its landmark Karma Kandara resort, and will be rolled out across its resort portfolio over time.
The company has set a goal of 0% waste from plastic bottles by installing an Electrolux water gallon dispenser to replace all plastic bottles in villas.
Additionally, single-use toiletries will be replaced with recycled plastic bottles, and bamboo combs, earbuds, and toothbrushes will be introduced.
Organic and recyclable bags will also be introduced.
"Recycling plastic not only requires large amounts of energy but also uses large quantities of water. This is a primary environmental problem; the production process is a leading cause of carbon emissions contributing to global warming," the company said.
"Karma Kandara is so excited to be reducing the use of plastic."
The move comes after the resort conducted a review of its sustainability initiatives and said it was ‘disappointed’ by the reliance on plastic products, such as single-use plastic bags, drinking water bottles and shampoo and conditioner bottles.
Karma Group currently operates 33 resorts in more than 10 countries, including Australia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the UK.
