KLM increases ticket surcharge
KLM is increasing its ticket surcharge to US$8 (£5) per coupon to cover the expense of extra security.
The Dutch carrier introduced the ticket surcharge following the 11 September terrorist attacks.
It now says that insurance premiums have increased, together with the cost of fitting high-security cockpit doors, and the increased cost of airport security, which has been passed onto airlines. Consequently the carrier has raised the surcharge from US$5 for passengers buying tickets in the US and Europe, and US$4 for those buying in the UK, to US$8 across the board.
The new charges will be implemented on 1 February.
