French start-up Kolet reshapes the world of e-sim

Thursday, 17 Jul, 2025 0

Founded in early 2024, French start-up Kolet wants to revolutionize the way to communicate for travelers. Kolet offers a fully digital eSIM product that activates in a few clicks, eliminating the need for physical SIM cards or opaque pricing.

The startup operates a B2B2C model, embedding its technology into the offerings of major travel players including Air France-KLM, Evaneos, Exoticca, Kiwi.com, MakeMyTrip, and Wego. These companies integrate Kolet into their customer journeys to enhance the traveler experience.

Bridging the telecom gap for global travelers

While traditional mobile operators have long neglected the needs of international travelers, Kolet positions itself as a modern alternative—providing instant, reliable connectivity from the moment passengers land. The solution also allows travel brands to maintain continuous engagement with customers throughout their journey.

The success of the young company translated into its success to raise funds. One year after receiving €5 million in seed round, Kolet just raised in June 2025 another USD 10 million in fundings. “It will allow us to scale up: expand our partner network, strengthen our product, and build a world-class team,” said Eduardo Ronzano, CEO and co-founder of Kolet.

The capital will fuel development across three fronts: enhancing Kolet’s mobile app with new traveler-focused features, boosting eSIM adoption through freemium plans and user-friendly on-boarding, and expanding the team.

With over 300,000 users already onboard, Kolet aims to hit 1 million by year’s end. The company touts a 4.9/5 average rating across app stores, with features like reusable data for future trips adding to its user-friendly edge.

With pricing starting at €3.99 for 1GB, an intuitive mobile app, and a commitment to responsible innovation (Kolet holds B Corp Pending status), the startup is poised to become a global leader in eSIM services.

July 2025 : an even-more user-friendly app

Early July, Kolet’s reinvents the eSIM experience with a new sleeker, ultra-intuitive interface. It comprises brand-new features, a refreshed design including enhanced guidance for first-time users. Integrating exclusive new tools, the app aims to become the ultimate travel companion.

We designed this new version as a co-pilot for travelers. It works for everyone — even those who’ve never used an eSIM before. It’s simple, fast, and, above all, reassuring. We’ve also added unique features that give users more freedom and control,” said Anne-Carole Cöen, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer.

The updated interface simplifies every step: activating a data plan, tracking usage, or switching countries. Everything is guided, with intuitive logic and visual tutorials at each tap. For clients facing difficulties, Kolet continues to offer round-the-clock human customer support — 24/7, worldwide.

For added comfort, the app now supports automatic dark mode, includes subtle haptic feedback (vibrations and micro-animations), and offers real-time data usage tracking right from the lock screen (iOS Live Activities)

Fairer, More Flexible Data

With the new version, unused data doesn’t go to waste. They automatically turn into credits that travelers can use on future trips, anywhere. It’s a fairer model that breaks away from the punitive norms of the telecom industry.

Another highly anticipated feature is data sharing. Users can now transfer part of their data plan to a friend, family member, or colleague in just a few seconds. The recipient simply receives an email, downloads the Kolet app, and the gifted gigabytes are instantly credited to their account. It’s a smooth, user-friendly solution that reflects the way people travel today.

And Kolet’s hallmark feature remains unchanged. There is no need to install a new eSIM for every country. A single Kolet eSIM covers multiple regions.

We wanted to combine technological performance with common sense,” explained Eduardo Ronzano. “Data that’s been paid for should be reusable. And an eSIM should follow the user across countries — not the other way around.”

Kolet remains commited to its original mission: to make internet access universally available — simply, affordably, and sustainably.
