Korea to open second DMZ hiking trail
Korean authorities will open a second hiking trail next month along the Demilitarized Zone separating north and south.
The opening of a section at Cheorwon, Gangwon Province is the next phase of the ‘DMZ Peace Trail’ initiative to allow civilians to safely hike along no man’s land.
The first trail was opened in late April in Goseong.
It allows groups of hikers to travel between the two Koreas along the two-mile wide DMZ.
It is available six days a week only by advance online booking and numbers are strictly limited.
The Cheorwon trail will open five days a week with two organised trips a day for up to 20 people.
It includes a visit to Arrowhead Hill guard post, which will be the first guard post ever opened to civilians.
All visitors are escorted by military personnel.
