Kuoni’s trends report shows holiday hot spots
Japan, Myanmar, Kenya and Namibia are the ‘rising stars’ according to Kuoni’s latest trends report.
Although the Maldives, Thailand and Sri Lanka are still the long-haul operator’s best-selling destinations, these four up-and-coming destinations are seeing the biggest growth in year-on-year bookings.
Vietnam is also making ground, moving into Kuoni’s top 20 list four years ago and now reaching 12th position based on advance bookings for 2016.
The destination has been helped by new direct flights to Vietnam and the opening of high quality resorts.
Meanwhile, Cuba in 8th position has become so popular that demand is now out-stripping supply.
"Tourism continues to thrive and the message to ‘see Cuba before it changes’ when it opens up to the American market, has driven increased bookings over the last 12 months, putting pressure on a finite number of hotel rooms particularly in Havana," said Kuoni’s report.
But other destinations have suffered, including Morocco and Turkey which have dropped down the list, and Egypt which has dropped out of the top 30 altogether.
"Even the ever-resilient Dubai and Abu Dhabi experienced a slight dent in bookings year-on-year," said Kuoni.
It said while confidence in travel for wish list destinations and experiences is unabated, booking patterns for 2016 are reflecting a hesitancy to book some destinations.
