Betting shop chain Paddy Power is offering odds of 8/11 that there will be a recall by Airbus of the A380.
Qantas grounded all its superjumbos following the emergency landing on Thursday of a London to Sydney flight. Investigators are looking into the cause of an engine blow out.
A Paddy Power statement said: “Airbus and Rolls Royce will be under serious scrutiny to explain the incident and if they can’t find a quick fix may have to recall all the aircraft.”
It added that it was also offering 15/8 that British Airways would cancel its pending A380 order and 4/11 it wouldn’t.
Paddy Power spokesman Roberto Coladangelo said: “All airlines worry about safety and with one plane holding so many passengers they will need some strong reassurances that this is a one off. If Airbus can’t offer quick reassurances they will have to recall the planes to fix any issues.”
