A section of the runway of Mexico City’s international airport was closed for several hours after a Boeing 737 jet’s landing gear collapsed as it touched down.

According to an Associated Press report the left-side wheel strut on a Magnicharters plane buckled on impact on the runway.

The jet was carrying 139 passengers and five crew members on the flight which took off from Cancun.

No physical injuries were reported but some travelers were treated for ‘nervous crisis.’

Emergency crews rushed to the scene but an airport official said all passengers were able to exit the aircraft normally.

The jet never left the runway during the hard landing and no fire broke out, the unnamed airport official said.

During the partial runway shutdown, other flight operations were able to continue normally.
