Las Vegas travel up in the air
For the fourth consecutive month, passenger traffic increased at the Las Vegas airport — a 14.2% increase compared with a year ago, according to the Clark County Aviation Department.
The growth at McCarran International Airport nearly doubled the national averages, according to the Air Transport Association.
A spurt of articles in travel magazines have helped spur interest in the area. But “the long weekend is back,” is another factor, suggested Deputy Aviation Director Rosemary Vassiliadis.
Through the first half of 2004, McCarran’s 20.3 million air passengers represented a 15.2% increase from a year ago. At its present rate, Las Vegas air traffic will top its year of 2000.
The association reported air traffic up 7.4% nationwide in June.
