Lastminute.com puts in strong performance
There were several strong performances among travel and tourism shares yesterday as London’s main equity market notched up a small gain. The FTSE 100 index gained 15.1 points to close at 4480.7, while the FTSE 250 dropped 7.4 points to end the day at 6324.8. The best performer was lastminute.com, which climbed some 9% in anticipation of a positive trading statement. The online agent said trading during the second quarter has been ahead of expectations. It posted total transaction value for the quarter by departure basis as slightly ahead of the £160 million that was indicated. British Airways climbed 5.75p to 304p on good March figures, while easyjet gained 2.75p to close at 306.75p after the City broker Cazenove upgraded the share to “buy” status.
