Late summer sales keep TUI on track
Late summer bookings have improved for TUI Travel keeping the operator on track for 2011.
Anticipating a slow recovery in Egypt and Tunisia for Winter 2011/12, the operator has reduced capacity by 7%.
But its differentiated winter product has sold well particularly in the UK and Nordics, the operator said in a trading update today.
This comes as the operator appoints a new non-executive director from outside the travel industry.
Coline McConvill, who has a strong background in international management, marketing and consulting, is a law graduate with an MBA from Harvard.
TUI said her experience in marketing and developing fast-growing international businesses will be of significant benefit.
“We remain confident that the full year results will be in line with our expectations,” said Peter Long, chief executive of TUI Travel PLC.
"Trading for Winter 2011/12 is satisfactory overall, but we are anticipating a slow recovery in trading to Egypt and Tunisia, and have managed our capacity accordingly.
“Our focus remains on differentiated product, maintaining margins, prudent capacity management, and delivering our turnaround and cost savings programme.”
