Launch of Cambridge-Oxford flights delayed
The launch of a new airline founded by an 18-year-old has been delayed because of problems with its online booking system.
As reported by News From Abroad, Martin Halstead’s Alpha 1 Airways was due to launch its twice-daily, Cambridge-to-Oxford service on Monday, offering an alternative to the “dozens” of academics, business people and tourists that travel between the two cities every day.
The flight takes around 20 minutes each way, and Alpha 1’s single fares cost up to £49.
But, according to The Daily Telegraph, following problems with the booking system, Mr Halstead has now admitted that flights are not likely to commence until the end of May.
Any ticket holders will be refunded, he reportedly said, adding that he had recently secured nearly £1 million-worth of investment in the fledgling carrier.
