‘Leakage’ claims: Muddled thinking and bad for policy? Says ODI
“Leakage” pessimists do us a disservice. The analysis uses muddled thinking and poor arithmetic to generate the wrong answer to an inappropriate policy question. The exaggerated claims divert attention from an important challenge at hand – boosting the linkages between tourism and the rest of the local economy.” Say Caroline Ashley and Jonathan Mitchell of the ODI in a recent paper slating tourism pessimists.
The paper is part of a major tourism development initiative by the award-winning think-tank.
Other Tourism papers include:
– “ProPoor Tourism – What’s Gone Right and What’s Gone Wrong”.
– “Can Tourism Offer Pathways to Prosperity?”
– And “Assessing how Tourism Revenues reach the Poor”
– There is also a tourism Blog – “How do We Mainstream ProPoor Tourism” by Jonathan Mitchell.
