Leave that door behind!
Pilfering by hotel guests is widespread, with items including toilet seats, door hinges and a medieval sword among the items that have gone missing. According to a survey by Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine, other things that have gone missing include a hotel door and even a hotelier’s pet dog. The magazine surveyed 1,000 hotel owners – and perhaps even more surprising was the list of items left behind; some of the more bizarre things include wigs, false teeth and false eyeballs. Amazingly, four per cent of owners claimed they had found artificial arms and legs left behind. On a more serious note, the survey found that stealing from hotels is remarkably common; towels are the items most likely to go missing, according to 32% of those questioned.
