LGA reopens, but expect delays, following Southwest accident
All runways at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport were open this morning, though flight delays of about an hour are expected through the day.
The airport was closed for about an hour yesterday after Southwest Airlines flight 345, carrying 150 passengers, skidded down the tarmac and veered into the grass.
The plane’s front landing gear collapsed right after it touched down on the runway at 5:40 p.m.
Ten passengers were treated at the scene, and six were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The six crew members also were taken to a hospital for observation.
One runway reopened last night; a Port Authority spokesman said a crane loaded the plane onto a flatbed this morning so the other runway could be used.
The Port Authority said the passengers exited the plane by using chutes.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
