Lodging survey says hotels are app-ing up, going eco
The 2012 Lodging Survey by the American Hotel and Lodging Association released this week says that eco-friendly practices, better and more technology and in-hotel health amenities are major drivers in hospitality today.
More than 52,000 US hotel properties were polled regarding aspects of hospitality like in-room amenities, security and technology, food and beverage, guest services and sustainability. The biennial survey says that:
Eco-friendly practices are critical:
- 76 percent polled have a linen/towel reuse program;
- Water savings programs have been implemented in 75 percent of properties;
Properties are staying connected and app-ing up:
- Although most of the positive responses are from upper-tier hotels, 23 percent of respondents already offer a mobile app for hotel services;
- Showing the prominence of OTAs in the hotel industry, 95 percent of participants admitted to using a third-party Internet source for bookings;
Hotels are keeping clients fit:
- Properties that offer an exercise/health/fitness facility reached a new peak at 84 percent;
- Non-smoking policies at hotels are gaining momentum as 63 percent of participants said they are comprised of 100 percent non-smoking rooms.
AH&LA president, Joseph A. McInerney cited a high response rate as an indicator that the survey was representative of the industry-at-large.
