London Stansted Airport on track for busiest ever summer
London Stansted Airport says it expects its busiest summer yet.
The airport is forecasting more than four million passengers during the peak summer season as schools break-up at the end of this week.
It comes as it revealed June’s passenger numbers bounced-back to near pre-pandemic levels.
Nearly 2.6m passengers were handled last month, an increase of 11% on June 2022.
It represents 98% of June 2019 passenger volume.
The total number of passengers served in the last 12 months now stands at 26.5 million – up 64% on last year.
Between April-June the airport said 97% of passengers passed through security screening in 15 minutes or less.
The airport is working hard to maintain high service levels for the peak summer getaway.
The arrivals hall has undergone a major refurbishment with new seating, improved food and beverage options and a new layout for a smoother passenger flow.
Seating capacity in the area has increased by 50% and includes integrated tables and USB charging points.
The quiet seating area in the departure lounge has also been upgraded, with 200 eco-friendly seats.
Jonathan Fowler, London Stansted COO, said: “This summer’s getaway is already well underway. We expect this will be our busiest summer ever.”
Last week the airport announced it was submitting a planning application.
