Long Beach mulls sinking historic Queen Mary
Long Beach city officials are discussing what to do with historic liner Queen Mary. It is mulling various options – keep in place and refurbish it, move it, scrap it or even sink it to serve as an artificial reef.
It seems whichever option it decides, it will cost at least $100 million. In a recent meeting about its future, the City Council is favoring preserving the ocean liner as a tourist attraction to benefit from revenues that an average 1.6 million visitors generate each year.
