Long-established travel PR Jeffrey Rayner dies
Star Clippers PR Jeffrey Rayner has died aged 72 after suffering complications of leukemia.
He represented the cruise line for 15 years through Intercommunications, his London public relations agency. In the past Intercommunications represented such maritime and leisure-travel clients as the Bahamas and Norwegian-Caribbean Cruise Line.
Anjie McFarlane, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Monaco-based Star Clippers said: “Jeffrey Rayner was a cherished friend as well as a highly talented professional and his loss will be deeply felt by his colleagues at Star Clippers in Europe and North America.
“Jeffrey had a passion for the Star Clippers sailing product that he communicated to British and European journalists with a wit and expertise that will be missed.”
Rayner worked as a reporter at the Irish News Agency before opening Intercommunications in 1958. He was chairman of the Kent Young Conservatives during the 1950s and this year was named chairman of the Surrey Lord’s Taverners.
Born in Gravesend, Kent, Rayner is survived by his daughter, Susan Ansell, son Angus and grandchildren Victoria Jacqueline and Isobel Emily Ansell. He was married to Jacqueline Lorimer from 1962 until her death in 1990.
He died at his home in Dorking, Surrey. The funeral is scheduled for December 11 at 14:30 in Betchworth.
