Long-term cruises getting more popular
Cruise for 123 days? Why not?
In addition to larger ships, a cruise trend is more long-term excursions, say industry officials.
Holland America, for example, says it plans a 20% increase in cruises longer than two weeks.
Silversea Cruises Lt., a specialist in high-end luxury cruises, has trips lasting up to 123 days. The line also plans its first around-the-world cruise this year.
Crystal Cruises is seeing a record number of bookings for its upcoming 106-day world cruise, according to MSNBC.com.
The advantages of a world cruise include the ability to visit distant areas on the same trip.
The longer cruises can cost anywhere from $10,000.
Any problems with such long visits? One obvious concern is how to pack enough clothing for the trip.
