Longer holidays on the cards?

Government is considering bringing the UK into line with the rest of Europe

Britons could be looking forward to longer holidays after the Government said it is looking at ways to increase the legal minimum time off for workers.

Britain is currently exempt from a EU ruling that imposes a maximum 48-hour week, and Tony Blair is reportedly keen to make up for that by increasing the current legal paid leave of four weeks a year.

The Daily Express reports that Mr Blair is under constant pressure from unions to “end the work-till-you-drop culture that has given Britons the longest hours, shortest lunchbreaks and shortest holidays in Europe”.
