Loo roll shortage causes five-hour flight delay

British Airways has apologised for a five-hour flight delay because items such as toilet roll and headphones had not been restocked.

Annoyed passengers on the flight to Barbados tweeted their dismay at having to wait for on the tarmac at Gatwick while the items were replaced.

One passenger, Annabel Cliffe, tweeted an hour into the delay: "Sat on plane @ Gatwick delayed with no idea of departure for wrong headphones!!"

Over three hours later she updated her Twitter account saying: "Loo roll and passengers now back on board!! Over 3 hrs late and counting will we ever leave LGW!!?"

Another flier, Bill Murray, tweeted: "Utter shambles. BA cost cutting means we’re all disembarked due to shortage of bog roll. Congrats – BA laughing stock."

A third passenger, Paul Kaye, tweeted: "Severely delayed because they forgot the loo rolls."

The Boeing 777 was due to leave Gatwick at 1.40pm on Sunday and finally left at 6.51pm, according to the Telegraph, arriving five-and-a-half hours later than scheduled in Bridgetown.

The newspaper quoted a spokesperson for BA saying: "We are sorry customers were delayed after some of the many items needed for the flight weren’t loaded onto the aircraft.

"We gave customers refreshment vouchers so they could get something to eat and drink in the terminal and we got them away on their holidays as soon as we could."
