Lower air fares steady inflation
Lower air fares offset rising prices for food and clothing to keep UK inflation steady last month.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, remained at 2.3%.
It said airfares fell by 4% in March, but this, said the ONS, was due to the fact that Easter Sunday fell on March 27 last year, causing fares to jump more than 20%.
With Easter Sunday falling on April 16 this year, inflation is expected to rise this month.
