Lufthansa unveils growth from the UK

Friday, 28 Mar, 2014 0

Lufthansa is increasing capacity from the UK and Ireland by introducing larger aircraft on some routes.

The airline said the expansion is due to customer demand and the general economic upturn.

The largest increase is on services between Aberdeen and Frankfurt, which are up by 23%.

Glasgow-Dusseldorf has been increased from six to seven flights a week, while Dublin-Munich will go from three to four flights a week from April and then to five flights a week in July and August
Capacity is also up at Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and London Heathrow.

From this Sunday (March 30) Lufthansa is also introducing some "subtle timetable adjustments" to create a better spread of the 12 daily services between Heathrow and Frankfurt in both directions.

Peak time services will operate hourly, with departures from Heathrow on or around the half hour and the return flights from Frankfurt on the hour.

In addition, all Lufthansa flights between Heathrow and Frankfurt will be operated by the larger Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, adding an extra 1000 seats each week.

In early October, Lufthansa’s Heathrow flights are due to move into the new Terminal 2, when it becomes the home of Star Alliance airlines.

As part of the development, Lufthansa will open a new lounge, its largest outside Germany.

* Lufthansa was hit by strike action across Germany yesterday, but said operations today (Friday) were back to normal.
