Luxury market to be hit as travellers cut costs
Holidaymakers will feel the pinch in 2012 with luxury holidays most affected according to a Travelvision survey.
Most holidaymakers will cut costs to ‘live within their means’ in this economic climate reveals the British Travel Awards (BTA) 2010/2011, which quizzed over 20,000 people.
But some markets could be protected. Of those who do intend to 'holiday as usual' , 62% are over 51 years olds – mortgage free, empty nesters.
The survey also showed less interest in the most popular long haul overseas and cruise holiday options which tend to be a higher spend.
The traditional short haul summer beach holiday remains the most popular choice, especially with the under 50s.
A quarter of respondents said they valued the ATOL licence when booking but a massive 64% of responders said they valued the ABTA licence more.
On the subject of internet research and booking, BTA chief executive officer, Lorraine Barnes Burton warned;” Give your customers the option to book online because if they can’t they’ll just click onto the next site and buy from there.
“The chances of you getting them into shops or remembering to call you the next day are pretty slim.”
And on the Olympics – 86% said that London 2012 would have no impact on their holiday decision at all with a further 8% saying they were going on holiday to escape it.
