Major Brisbane airport evacuation
Flights out of Brisbane faced massive delays last night with Brisbane airport suffering its second security scare in a week, resulting it a total evacuation of the airport.
It became apparent to number of security staff in Qantas’ domestic terminal around 6:30pm that a number of passengers had managed to get to the gate without having completed security screening.
Several thousand people and many flights were delayed as a result, with all passengers even waiting for Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Blue flights at the gates, having to leave their gates to be rescreened.
Brisbane Airport spokeswoman Rebecca McConochie said “A number of passengers went through the Qantas screening point without being screened,”
“There was too many of them for it to stay isolated to the Qantas domestic terminal, so we had to evacuate the entire terminal.”
This was the second security breach in Brisbane’s Qantas domestic terminal in a week after a similar situation arising last week, but being confined to the Qantas terminal, whereas this latest incident affected the whole airport.
“BAC (Brisbane Airport Corporation) said is certainly working with Qantas to make sure these issues are addressed and a full investigation will be conducted.
