Majority of travel agency clients are 40-plus

Nearly 90% of customers using travel agents are over 40 according to a survey by the Global Travel Group.

Respondents claimed that it is middle aged and elderly customers who most frequently use them, with nearly all being over 40.

The research also found that tailormade holidays are the most popular request from customers visting travel agents, followed by the traditional package holiday.

Global Travel Group’s managing director, Andy Stark said customers know they can trust agents to cut through the options and present the best itinerary.

He said: "Customers trust agents for the knowledge that they bring to the table and with the dizzying array of options out there, can be relied on for their expertise in cutting through the clutter to present the best complex itinerary.

"While the rise of OTA’s has no doubt led to more consumers booking their flights and hotels online, when it comes to the tailor made holiday, the survey results have spoken and the agent is still king."
