Malaysia Airlines crew to gather in remembrance for MH370 anniversary

Malaysia Airlines will observe the first anniversary of the disappearance of MH370 with a private remembrance gathering with staff and the next of kin of the aircraft’s crew.

A service will be held on the outskirts of Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

"The anniversary is a significant event for us. Certainly it had a deep and lasting impact on our business and reputation, but more importantly, we also lost 13 dear friends that day," said the airline’s chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof.

"We will mark the occasion to remember our dear colleagues and friends on the ill-fated flight," he said, urging the media to respect the privacy of those in attendance.

"We will use the occasion to remind ourselves and the relevant authorities of the obligations – duty and moral obligations – to pursue the search for answers to the final conclusion as the job is not done."

As the one-year anniversary approaches on Sunday, MAS is due to publish an interim report and has already officially declared the disappearance of Flight MH370 an accident with all 239 passengers and crew on board presumed dead.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot has said the search for the missing jet goes on but will likely be scaled down.

"I can’t promise the search will go on at this intensity forever, but we will continue our very best efforts to resolve this mystery and provide answers," Abbot said.
