Maldives bans travellers from South Asia
Indian Ocean holiday hotspot the Maldives has banned inbound travel from most of South Asia due to a worrying surge in Covid cases.
The Tourism Ministry said it has stopped issuing visas for travellers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The archipelago saw a record 1,500 cases in a single day, up ten-fold from a month ago. Its biggest current source market for tourists is India, which has been ravaged by record infection rates in recent weeks.
