Man arrested after trespassing on Los Angeles Airport runway
A man was detained after trespassing at Los Angeles International Airport and making his way to a Delta plane preparing to take off.
Airport police said the intruder scaled a perimeter fence and got onto the taxiway just in front of the Delta aircraft.
Airport police Officer Rob Pedregon described the man as homeless with mental health problems and didn’t pose a threat.
Bizarrely, he began doing push-ups on the tarmac before being apprehended, according to one passenger.
"He got underneath the plane. He was jumping up, trying to touch the wings. He ran to the other side of the plane, was touching the engines. He got down on the ground, started doing some push-ups. By that time, all the police and security got down on him," passenger Tom Ruffing said.
The incident forced the closure of the runway for about 20 minutes and the Delta aircraft was then assessed by mechanics before being cleared to take off.
