Man seriously injured by falling sofa outside London hotel
A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was reportedly hit by a sofa falling 130ft from a hotel building in London.
The man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance after the incident outside the building which houses the W Hotel and some private residences in Wardour Street, near Leicester Square on Friday.
He remains in a critical condition.
The hotel said it was working with the Met and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to find out what happened.
A spokesman for W Hotel said: "We are aware of an incident at the Swiss Centre which also houses W London Leicester Square.
"The exact circumstances of this accident are still being investigated by the local authorities which we support in their investigations. For any additional information, please refer to the Metropolitan Police or Knight Frank, the building manager of the Swiss Centre. Our thoughts and prayers go to the gentleman concerned, who is being treated in hospital for his injuries.
A police spokesman said it was thought the sofa fell from scaffolding which had been erected as part of ongoing work at the Swiss Centre, which houses the W Hotel and a number of private residences.
