Management changes at Wizz Air
Wizz Air has appointed Stephen Jones as executive vice president and deputy CEO.
He will take up his appointment during the latter part of this year reporting into CEO Jozsef Varadi.
He will be responsible for the airline’s commercial, marketing and information technology.
Jones, who is a national of both New Zealand and the UK, joins from Air New Zealand where he was chief strategy, network and alliances officer.
Before this he held a number of other roles at Air New Zealand, where he has worked since 2001, including general manager of its low-cost carrier Freedom Air.
He also currently serves as chairman of the Star Alliance Management Board and the Star Alliance Strategy Committee.
Meanwhile, two members of the airline’s management have been promoted to Wizz Air’s executive team.
Iain Wetherall, currently head of financial planning and control and investor relations, is promoted to chief financial officer, while Heiko Holm, currently head of technical services, is promoted to chief technical officer.
Vaaradi said the promotions are ‘further examples of Wizz Air’s planning for its future significant growth by bringing additional capacity into its senior management team while leveraging its great talent pool to promote from within’.
