Marriott International is facing a lawsuit relating to the death of a father and young son in a hotel swimming pool.

William Tchouamou Ganjui, 37 from Massachusetts died along with his two-year child in 2016 at the Marriott Residence Inn Westmount hotel in Montreal.

The suit alleges the pool area did not have security cameras or an alarm system which may have saved the victims.

The family is seeking $3.9 million in damages.

"There was no way for the hotel staff to be alerted to the ongoing emergency in the pool area in a timely fashion in order to render assistance or seek aid," the lawsuit said.

Marriott has since installed cameras and now has a lifeguard on duty, the suit said.

The family has suffered the post-traumatic stress of the deaths ‘at such early ages and the particularly dramatic and violent circumstances’

The drownings were witnessed by Ganjui’s two other young children.

In a tragic accident, Ganjui slipped into the pool’s deep end while carrying his son and was unable to swim to safety.
