Marriott targets opening 100 hotels in Asia Pacific this year
Despite a depressed leisure and business travel market across the region, Marriott International is pressing ahead with major expansion across Asia Pacific in 2021.
It plans to open nearly 100 properties in Asia Pacific this year.
Throughout the region it is marking several firsts for various brands.
W Hotels will debut in Japan with W Osaka, The Luxury Collection will debut in Australia with the The Tasman in Hobart and the Ritz-Carlton brand will enter the Maldives market during 2021.
Another milestone of note this year will be the launch of its 400th hotel in Greater China and the 50th hotel in Shanghai with JW Marriott Shanghai Fengxian’s opening in the spring.
"The strength of our pipeline is testament to the long-term growth prospects in the Asia Pacific. Despite a challenging environment in 2020, we are pleased with the signings we have achieved across the region during the year," said Paul Foskey, Marriott’s Chief Development Officer, Asia Pacific.
Marriott opened 75 hotels across the Asia Pacific region last year.
