Melbourne Airport hails new Vietnam route

Friday, 06 Jun, 2024 0

VietJet recently touched down at Melbourne Airport on its inaugural flight from Hanoi.

It marks an important new international air link at Melbourne Airport, and is the airline’s second Vietnam flight route to Melbourne.

It also highlights 60% growth of the Vietnamese market from pre pandemic levels.

Prior to the pandemic there were only 10 Vietnam flights a week.

That has now more than doubled to 21.

Vietjet’s twice weekly service to Hanoi will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays on an Airbus A330.

Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said: “The huge growth in the Vietnam market has been made possible by new air services agreements that have provided capacity ahead of demand.”

“The increased competition and capacity in the market delivers benefits to passengers in the form of cheaper fares.”

Vietjet’s Hanoi service will complement its current five times a week service from Ho Chi Minh City.

“Since Vietjet’s first flight to Australia in April 2023, we have continuously expanded our network connecting the five largest cities in Australia,” said  Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh.

The Melbourne – Hanoi route further proves our commitment to quality services between Australia and Vietnam.”
