Melbourne Airport International passenger traffic at post-pandemic high
International traveller numbers at Melbourne Airport are at their highest level in almost three years.
The 766,439 international travellers handled at Melbourne Airport in December 2022 is 71% of December 2019.
A total of 2.6 million passengers passed through Melbourne Airport in December, which is 79% of December 2019.
It’s the highest monthly total since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, domestic numbers were down due to higher airfares.
“Demand for international flights keeps growing and last month we saw incredibly high load factors,” airport CEO Lorie Argus said.
VietJet launches direct services to Ho Chi Minh City and Qantas returns to Hong Kong in the coming months.
“These flights are huge employment generators both at Melbourne Airport and in the wider Victorian economy.”
