Melbourne Cup to celebrate everything Irish
Dublin will be the theme for Emirates airline’s Birdcage marquee at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The exterior will resemble a typical Dublin high street while the main internal section of the marquee will be based on the Long Room from Dublin’s Trinity College.
The marquee design will include authentic bookcases in a nod to Dublin’s rich literary history.
The menu will feature classic Irish dishes and Irish-themed cocktails.
Entertainment will be provided by Irish dancing troupe, the Christine Ayres Irish Dancers, recently crowned the world’s best in Belfast.
Barry Brown, Emirates’ vice president Australasia, said the 2012 Melbourne Cup Carnival would bring together an Irish festival of food, music, culture and literature.
Emirates introduced its new one-stop flights from Melbourne to Dublin earlier this year.
The 2012 Melbourne Cup Carnival will celebrate the 15th year of Emirates’ involvement.
Derby Day kicks off the Melbourne Cup Carnival on November 3, with the Emirates Melbourne Cup on November 6 and Oaks Day on November 8, while the Carnival culminates with Emirates Stakes Day on November 10.
